Managing Your Tasks in CPA Buddy

Last updated

Tasks are the individual units of work within engagements. You have two ways to view them: My Day for your personal task list and Team Board for a firm-wide kanban view.

My Day

Click My Day in the sidebar to see all tasks assigned to you.

At the top, a stats bar summarises your workload:

  • Overdue — tasks past their due date
  • Due Today — tasks due today
  • Upcoming — tasks due later this week or month

Each task row shows the title, linked client, status, and due date.

Filtering tasks

Use the dropdown filters to focus on what matters right now:

FilterOptions
Due DateAll, Overdue, Due Today, Due This Week, Due This Month
StatusAll, To Do, In Progress, Blocked, In Review, Done

Filtering CPA Buddy tasks by due date to separate overdue work from what is due this week

Filters work together — for example, show only “In Progress” tasks that are “Due This Week”.

Creating a task

Click the New Task button to open the task form.

Two fields are required: Title and Engagement (the engagement this task belongs to). You can also set:

  • Status — To Do, In Progress, Blocked, In Review, or Done
  • Priority — Low, Normal, High, or Urgent
  • Due date — when the task should be completed
  • Estimated hours — for time tracking

Click Create Task to save. The task appears in your list immediately.

Team Board

Click Team Board in the sidebar to see all firm tasks in a kanban layout.

  • Click a card to open the task detail page
  • Each card shows the task title, assigned staff member, client, and priority

Managers, Admins, and Owners see all firm tasks. Staff and Contractors see tasks assigned to them plus tasks from their engagements.

  • Edit the task title, status, priority, and dates

  • See the full status history

Common Questions

What’s the difference between My Day and Team Board? My Day shows only tasks assigned to you in a list view. Team Board shows all firm tasks in a kanban board. Use My Day for your personal workflow and Team Board for the big picture.

How do I reassign a task to someone else? Open the task detail page and change the assignee. On the Team Board, you can use the reassign action on a task card to move it to a different staff member.

Can a task be blocked? Yes. Drag a task to the “Blocked” column (or change its status). You’ll be asked to provide a reason so your team knows what’s holding things up.

How does time tracking work? Open a task and use the time tracking section to log hours. Time entries feed into the Timesheet and Reports features.

I don’t see any tasks on the Team Board. Make sure your firm has created engagements with tasks. If you’re a Staff or Contractor role, you’ll only see tasks assigned to you or related to your engagements.
